Heritage Infill Development in Vancouver’s West End
The development involves relocating and modernizing two Class B Heritage Buildings that were constructed in 1902 and 1908. One of building’s was one of the first mixed-use buildings in the area featuring a neighbourhood grocery owned by one of Vancouver’s first female entrepreneurs, Kate Fleming. In the space created at the rear of the lot from relocating the two homes, an attached modern infill building will be constructed. Dubbed a “Tokyo Infill” by SHAPE Architecture, the project’s Architect and visionaries, the infill will be home to a modern two bedroom suite while the existing structures feature a mix of two and three bedroom units for a total of 5 market rentals. Maintaining the original mixed-use nature of the development, an updated commercial space will remain with a heritage facade on the Cardero Street.
